Investigating Historical and Cultural Viewpoints

Ahead of time, small groups of students research different historical periods and people represented at the site. Students could choose from groups such as pre-contact Native cultures, fur traders, Kanaka village residents, settlers, soldiers in the Army, mill workers, Civilian Conservation Corps members, shipyard workers, and others. While walking the Land Bridge, stop at each of the three overlooks for student groups to describe the view (of the river, prairie, and village) from their character’s perspective and time period.
