Investigating Historical and Cultural Viewpoints

Students working in small groups before visiting the site investigate and research people associated with Cape Disappointment at different historical periods. Consider possibilities such as early explorers, Chinook men, Chinook women, merchant traders from England and China, Corps of Discovery members, traders with the Astor Company or Hudson’s Bay Company, fishermen at different time periods, 20th century historical figures, and Park Service employees. During the visit to the site, at different points, these small groups share perspectives with their peers, speaking from the point of view of the people they have researched.
