Attributes of Sustaining the Legacy of Community Art
- Formalizes tribal member’s status as guest teachers with a valuable contribution to the school district curricula–List contact names and the specific resources they bring through their presentations, moving learning/ lessons out of the book and into the real world
- Includes interpretive visual and written signage –Communicate the project intention for future viewers of the art installation
- Adds accompanying brochures/pamphlets to increase information levels – Reference student art sites in publications about the public art
- Sustains student school projects as part of ongoing curricula –Show student spin-off products (PowerPoints, digital albums, videos), and ask upcoming classes to create new responses to art as a shared experience across time
- Creates a focus of common interest for the community –focus on tangible events to create meaningful projects
- Instills pride of ownership –use teamwork, a sense of place and mutual problem solving
- Embeds ongoing accountability into planning –outline responsibilities in formal agreements during the planning process
- Empowers the individual» –Provide ways each person can make a difference through individual expression within a collaborative project
